    April 27, 2024 - It’s ok. Nothing special

November 2, 2023 - Drank over 3 days - best on day 3. Very closed up at opening as would be expected - this needs a serious decant. Fruit driven; the tannins have been tamed and integrated nicely with the fruit. Red berries, white figs, graphite, lead pencil. Excellent.

August 6, 2023 - Opened it in a restaurant in Ravello. Utterly enjoyable and resolved with sweet dark fruit, tobacco, graphite and cigarbox. Good sweetness along with moderate complexity. 91-92

October 21, 2022 - Found the 1996 at a restaurant for a reasonable price… have 2016 and 2015 at home, so I thought we try it.

A quick decant and then drank over 90 minutes. Very enjoyable. Soft tannins and just a little acidic, which mellowed quickly.

A very nice wine… maybe not the best vintage, but it was quite enjoyable. Looking forward to my ‘15 and ‘16 over the years (if I can keep my hands off it).

I think I would drink the 1996 fairly soon.

April 10, 2021 - Slow ox’ed for 30 min and drank over several hours. Still a fairly dark garnet with a thin translucent rim. A fine nose that is showing both the Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese. Medium bodied with plenty of freshness. Good balance. With more air some fairly drying tannins from the Sangiovese start to evolve while the wine remains aromatically somewhat muted. A good Sammarco even if not at the level of the best vintages I have had. Would drink now without a long decant, as I am afraid this might dry out
