  September 14, 2013 - Consumed over three nights. Equally pleasurable, but also interestingly distinctive, on each occasion. New world meets Burgundian in style: medium-bodied, silky and round and fruity, but with grip too, as well as savoury complexity and good, bracing acidity . On day one, sappy, leafy and racy, with cranberry, rhubarb and fresh herbs to the fore, complemented by mellow mature notes and smoky oak. On day two, more depth, with red cherry, exotic spice, dried thyme coming through. By the third night, ripe strawberry was the dominant flavour characteristic, somewhat surprisingly perhaps, along with darker plum fruit, and underpinned by leather and forest floor. Kumeu make top-quality wines: precise, pure, expressive, with admirable clarity of expression.

  December 15, 2010 - Fairly light in color/body. Leafy, very slightly strawberry nose, brett/reduction. A nice weight in mouth and reasonably burgundian in weight. I find the finish offputting: somewhat firm tannins combined with a sourness. While in some ways this wine is old-world in character, there's really no pleasure in it. Rather less nice the second day.

  December 12, 2010 - Medium bodied. Nice strawberry fruits. A little smokiness and superfine tannins. Clean. Very serviceable if not spectacular.
