October 2, 2023 - My very last bottle, and, while still enjoyable, it was definitely time to drink it up. The tannins are completely resolved, but the fruit has faded and the structure and length are receding as well. I've had a bottle of this in '21, '22 and now '23 and it has aged markedly over that period. Few cases of wine I've ever bought have given more pleasure.

April 12, 2022 - Still lovely at 25. The power is waning a bit, but the finesse and balance are compelling. The '97 BdM vintage remains a wonderful treasure to enjoy, especially when I thought I'd run out and discovered I still had a couple of bottles . . .

October 10, 2021 - [Tasted blind] this wine pours light garnet in the glass with medium bricking. On initial pour it shows quite mature and over the course of four hours in the decanter shows more balancing fruit (though still a touch clamped down aromatically). The nose is of dried red cherry, rosemary, tar, a touch of rubber, autumn leaves, soy, iron, and vague touches of old wood. The palate features fairly lush cherry on the mid-palate with medium tannin and medium plus acid. Given the light color and the tar note I guessed Nebbiolo of about 20 years of age. Secondary guess was Sangiovese of similar age. On reveal I would have had higher hopes for this wine, but still not a terrible showing, albeit lacking some excitement. I think even a little bit more air could have benefitted this experience.

August 3, 2021 - My last bottle from an original case, and, sadly, my last '97 Brunello. Wonderful, fully mature BdM from a splendid vintage; accompanied NY strip steak dinner. Still had ample power, with great subtlety and elegance. Endless finish. Brilliant. A very special wine on a special occasion.
