Community Tasting Notes 16

December 31, 2022 - Opened my last bottle of the auction lot since I was concerned as to it's storage & longevity and it performed exactly as the note from 4/22. So to reiterate:

Color/App: deep ruby (though slightly translucent) core -> medium-deep ruby/garnet rim; medium+ viscosity. Opened & splash decanted before tasting this time. Bouquet of plum and black cherries, a bit of scorched earth, roasted meat and light oak. Full bodied palate with great acidity and a moderately long finish; lively and nice. Palate all black fruits (blackberries, black cherries, etc.), bramble, anise and beast. Delicious, on the savoury side of Syrah and in my wheelhouse for sure (91-92).

April 17, 2022 - Let me start this review by saying I'm not sure this is a pristine example of this wine; purchased at auction several years ago and upon opening found seepage around top of cork after cutting capsule -- fill was fine but this may have suffered from improper storage at some point in the supply chain.

Color/App: deep ruby (though slightly translucent) core -> medium-deep ruby/garnet rim; medium+ viscosity. Opened & decanted for 2.5+ hours before tasting. Bouquet of plum and black cherries, a bit of scorched earth, roasted meat and light oak. Full bodied palate with great acidity and a moderately long finish; lively and nice. Palate all black fruits (blackberries, black cherries, etc.), bramble, anise and beast. Delicious, on the savoury side of Syrah and in my wheelhouse for sure. I'll say 91-92 and wonder if it could have been even better if stored properly ??

December 2, 2019 - Not a bad or too old wine, but the wood is still there, yet a classy one, but still the wine expresses more work than a beautiful terroir and place such as that one giving the appellation its name. According to some famous wine makers here, this parcel is a gift, slopes, slates, in the Tournon village, historical, beautiful and such a wonderful place to grow grapes... Nose if evoluted with chocolate and praline kind of sweetness... then the palate is powerful still with nice leathery and cocoa character... but nothing great ... again I believe there is too much work in there and not enough emotion...

November 15, 2019 - Nose is meaty, berry, earth..
Palate is earthy, chalky, cherry, mineral...
Really interesting what wine and why I love Rhône syrahs for all
The tertiary flavors ... not the fruit forward Syrah some drinkers love..
So while it’s not going to be a crowd pleaser, I found it to be complex
    And interesting....

July 28, 2018 - Very slight bricking color...nose is plum, Smokey gamey meat,
Some earth.....tongue is lean, acidic, slight bitter note, plum with very
Drying tannins...some strawberry reveals with time...
Not sure if this is a bit aged or if it’s a very lean style of Syrah...or both
