Community Tasting Notes 4

December 9, 2023 - No obvious flaw, the wine was just dead. Tried it immediately, gave it an hour, then two then 24 and at no point did it improve. Sad to see 3 liters go down the drain but them's the breaks.

August 15, 2019 - High fill bottle not showing its age. Delicious!!

April 28, 2014 - Score would be 100 if reflecting the ambience, occasion (30th anniversary) and pure rarity of this wine as well as the tasting experience.
Decanted 1 hour. Fill to neck (excellent for 30 year old wine) the label and capsule perfect as well stored. Cork broke in centre but came out in 2 halves. Some redness still with aged orange rim; very aromatic Margaux style nose; smooth palate with some fruit and a sweetness reminiscent of Port. Amazingly long finish.
Shame it was the second of 2 bottles so no more left, but this was better than the one I opened last year!

May 11, 2013 - A well kept bottle from a supposedly awful vintage! Fill level in the neck with excellent condition label clearly storage had been good. Capsule tight and cork clean on top. Cork was soft, but it didn't crumble when pulled, and had colour about 60% up it. Surprisingly there was no unpleasant aroma from the bottle - so far so good! Small sample in the glass was brick with orange at rim, clear and bright but no tears formed. Nose nothing discernible. The palate was smooth with low level currant fruit - black - coming through. Sweetness, a bit like port and medium bodied. The finish was a good 6 or 7 seconds.
Overall a real surprise an '84 that's still alive. Having expected to open sip and pour away we went on to drink the whole bottle which amazingly was almost sediment free! A good wine to celebrate our recent 29th wedding anniversary. I have another bottle for next year!
My score reflects in large part my low expectation and a professional would no doubt have a different view.
