December 26, 2020 - Drank over four days having been stood up for seven days. A medium garnet core fading to a pale garnet outer edge. There’s a beautiful, haunting characteristic to this wine with tart, wild red berries and red currants, cranberry, raspberry, sour cherry, decayed forest floor, mushrooms, fermented grass, and decayed rose petals. A truly stunning, elegant, archetypal nose. Had the palate delivered the same pleasure as the nose we’d be looking at an exceptional wine here but sadly it fell short. There wasn’t the same levels of intensity or complexity on the palate but it still pleased nevertheless offering up wild mushrooms with red berries and red currants but in a far more austere fashion with less ripeness and generosity of fruit than on the nose. Texturally the wine delivered what one expects from mature Burgundy.

    March 13, 2018 - PopnPour, tasted over 2 hrs
    -nearly semi-translucent mild bricking
-some Burg funk faded cherry and sousbois
-med/med- acidity makes this seem almost flabby, med- weight and concentration, restrained and elegant faded darker spectrum fruits earth minerality and trace oak, OK length, med- tannins
-this bottle at full maturity at this point, pleasant but frankly a little disappointing in the context of the producer and vintage

    October 15, 2017 - Initial impression

Nose is fairly forest floor toned with hints of medicinal notes and an underlying sweetness. Rather light on the palate, lacks any sense of richness and is moderately structured, a touch too much acid, then finishes with lovely wild cherry fruit and subtle hints of angelica root and green herb adding detail. There's sweetness and length to the finish, though not a ton of complexity. 86-87pts

    90 minutes in

There's more candied sweetness to the red fruit on the nose now along with a gentle meatiness along with a fine white mineral snap along with a hint of sage The palate has filled out considerably, with cranberry and tart cherry fruit early on the palate supported by rather fine if slightly austere tannins. Subtle and detailed on the palate, the tannins become more assertive through the lengthening, dustily mineral finish. Lovely austerity and length here, though this seems to lack a bit of depth. 88-89pts

    4 hours in

Spicier on the nose but at the same time flatter and less effusive with a cinnamon candy quality. Again a touch meaty on entry, then this turns texturally a touch chunky on the palate and even a bit hot through the finish. The fruit tightens up, showing a more candied quality through the shortening finish. A bit muddied even at this stage. Not a great showing and doesn’t seem like it’s going to sort itself out that much. 87pts

April 8, 2017 - My second and final battle of this. I am somewhat underwhelmed with this cuvée compared to d'Angerville others. Mostly it is missing the texture. The class of the 02 however is clearly evident here as there is lovely purely and depth. Even so, I may have waited a bit long on this one.

January 28, 2017 - Been well cellared since release. The fruit was pinched and the wine gave no pleasure. Thankfully my last bottle.
