May 18, 2022 - Pretty amazing. This wine was opened as sort of a last minute decision. There was an 88 Spring Mountain Cab that I had missed probably by 30 minutes. The cork was withdrawn intact by ah so. About 80 percent saturated but the top of the cork was perfect. The wine poured a maroon color with a hint of bricking. Nose that was insanely youthful. Red raspberry crush but there was a larger amount of red cherry and raspberry jam that took me by surprise. There was no grassy or weedy character. No significant nitrogenous character. The entry of this wine is smooth, integrated classic Napa Cabernet. Raspberries and red cherries, a tiny bit medicinal but dried herbs and a hint of fig, tobacco leaf, black tea, and a faint hint of saddle leather (but not over the top like some of these aged Napa Cabs can get). Showed its age on the finish but that just shows the incredible structure of these Chappellet wines (this is one of the oldest in my cellar now, but has similar experiences with some 70s vintages). Still wonderfully alive with an integrated, smooth round finish with a hint of chalkiness. This wine lasted for the 45 minutes it was enjoyed and didn't decline. What a crazy wine!! A beautiful classic red fruit dominant Napa Cabernet.

April 11, 2021 - Brick edges, good dark ruby, very nice fruit, currants, dark fruits, pencil lead, nice mouth feel, long finish, still going strong on day 2.

July 26, 1998 - ORANGE ON THE EDGE. VERY FRUITY NOSE WITH LEATHER. BLACK CHERRY AND LICORICE IN THE FLAVOR. NICE LEGS. LONG FINISH.
