June 5, 2022 - Surprisingly still holding together but it will be dead in the next year or two. There's black cherries, molasses, raisins, with a lot of sage and old oak. Reminiscent of a decent Amarone.

March 3, 2015 - 15.5% alcohol. Allowed to breathe in glass 15 minutes before tasting. Clear dark garnet color. Bouquet of sweet brambly boysenberry jam, cocoa, cloves, vanilla, bourbon, oak. Similar on palate, overall seems fading, dusty and dry, likely past prime.

July 20, 2013 - Opening Some Older Red Wine Treasures at Chateau Abee, Columbia, SC 7/20/2013 (Chateau Abee, Bakersfield Road, Columbia, SC): Oh my my, this is the real thing. One the the most respected Zinfandel producers with grapes from one of the most memorable vineyards in California. This 2000 is still an infant. Such a big mouth full of flavor, it is hard to know where to start. I get a savory flavor that is not typical for zin. One of the most prominent fruit flavors is mulberry, which also is somewhat unique. The richness and concentration is the type you expect if you score it 92. There is blueberry and cherry with bramble, smoke and a touch of barnyard. Not tannic. Balanced. Maybe the Biale team, or maybe the extended bottle age have tamed the famous Monte Rosso rusticity. A real treat.

    January 15, 2004 - 2000 Biale Monte Rosso zinfandel

1/15/04 at home. Deep ruby-purple. Expressive nose, ripe and highly extracted, but well short of overripe. Big and rich, but smooth and balanced, with only a faint hint of alcoholic heat at the end. 5-12-16-8-91/100
