Second half of bottle enjoyed the next day: nose is even more effusive with gorgeous tertiary notes; onion compote, sous bois, “autumn walk in the woods”. 94 -

June 11, 2023 - Another great bottle of this, amazingly consistent. Clearly a late release as the capsule, cork and label were in nearly flawless condition (much like a 1947 Bichot RSV enjoyed in the past couple years). I would guess this was bottled around early 90s. Threw a good bit of sediment.

September 14, 2022 - A soprano-styled Volnay with, at first, a definitive high-toned orange top note that sings with juicy complexity, revealing sous bois type aromas, mineral, herbal tea notes, autumn leaf, soil and some antique wood scents both on the nose and palate. This particularly bottle opens with elegant acidity and then breaks into a subtle sweetness that adds just a bit of width to the flavors on the midpalate. With air time, you get a bit of celery-salt/fresh minerally texture that melds very well with the acidity. Like previous bottles, this has completely resolved tannins, that enables this to shine on its own (if so desired). the piquant top-note dried floral and spice aromas to this wine scream Volnay and take you into the autumn woodlands with such ease and grace! Lovely. Really classy stuff.
