December 23, 2023 - Having read all the comments here I was well advised to only open the bottle two hours before serving and to not decant.

The first glass was really magical with milk chocolate smooth on the nose reinforcing the velvety attack on the palate, but there was also a lovely briny licorice that strangely enough married quite well.

Over the course of the evening the wine started to fall apart at the seams just a little bit, or rather, the briny (and savory) character became more dominant. I have no issue with acidity and salinity in my Syrahs and we thought it was a lovely experience, drinking really well right now. No upside in cellaring this anymore but certainly not over the top either.

Paired with a 36 months old Comté

November 10, 2022 - "The mind is willing, but the flesh is weak" (Chicago, IL): In contrast to the 2015 which should not have been opened, the 2008 is showing quite mature, and for my palate, in a very good spot to drink now. Lots and lots of salinity, this feels thin and lacks the weight and concentration of the better vintages. Effectively resolved at this point, the tannins are present but silky. Some savoury tones on the finish. Not one that I think would have huge upside with further aging, but there's certainly no rush to open them now either -- I just don't think they're going to get appreciably better from where they are right now.

August 3, 2022 - Ether and something faintly jammy on the nose. On the palate, cherry, rust/beef blood, and notes of red pepper, tapenade, and a hint of leather on the long finish, with light tannins and moderate acidity. This was an average to good value at about $70. The fading tannins suggest that this won't hold much longer, although the Cellartracker drinking window looks a little short.

May 27, 2022 - WIMPS #153 Northern Rhône 27th May 2022 (La Trompette, Chiswick): Peppery and jammy nose with something a little charcoal like on the palate. With time something exotic emerges on the nose like slicing into a really ripe banana there is something spicy too. The palate is on the short side, maybe age related or is it the 2008 thing? Want to love this but it's not blowing me away. With time there is a crème brûlée quality to the nose. Needs time.

March 29, 2022 - Jamet Day (Ada St.): The featherweight of the line up. Still has that evocative pepper and green olive complexity though the fruit is quite lightweight and bordering on dilute. At or past peak.
