April 13, 2013 - This is an interesting wine and I'm not sure what to think of it. It's best described as a poor man's Amarone. In theory, that sounds lovely, and on the whole it's enjoyable. While not exactly unbalanced, however, the pieces don't seem to add up. The nose is pleasant, rich morello cherries, blackberries, with an earthy background perfumed with violets. The palate is also filled with a mix of black and red fruits and somewhat of an earthy, almost brick-lick middle palate. It's the finish the got me, however. It was a bit sweet, in an Amarone-like way, but it seemed to be lacking a mix of acidity and bitterness. I wouldn't call it unbalanced, because I did get acidity on the front palate. Rather it was almost 're-arranged' in a less than perfect manner. I'm not sure if I drank this too young or old. The vibrancy of acidity and tannin wasn't quite there, but the fruit was very forward and the meniscus was rather bright for a wine of its age. A bit of a mystery. Quite enjoyable with a lamb ragu, but I would decant for at least 3-4 hours. Interesting, if not perplexing.

December 9, 2012 - Not sure what happened. No balance, rough.

April 15, 2012 - Popped and poured. cork fine. color dark purplish garnet and nose pretty tight. Passed through vinturi which opened it up some. Nose showed dusty dark fruit with telltale dark florals c/w Italian heritage. With air this showed more rhubarb cola aromas. On the palate this was soft but had underlying structure. Really a nice match with wild boar this evening, and a great bargain at $13.

October 8, 2011 - Kind of agree with write up in Wine Access Mag - decent example of a slight earthy vino with some dark fruit - and some complexty that comes in the form of some stewed plum/dark berry fruit qualities. Nice long finish. Let this air for some time.

For fun, take a read of the '07 vintage notes by Honest Bob...this '06 doesn't quite read like this on my palate. Available in private wine store in MB, CAN.
