Community Tasting Notes 5

May 7, 2021 - Belated Birthday Dinner (Nicolas Restaurant, Teck Lim Street, Singapore): Decent, but probably a half-step behind the other wines tonight. It had a rather funky, muddy, earthy nose, with sous bous and soil, floating around deeper notes of dark cherries and blueberries and deeper blackberry aromas, all with a dose earthy, spicy minerality at the sides. The palate had a Grand Cru depth and texture to it, with fine but firm tannins and deep-set acidity framing juicy notes of dark cherries and blackberries, a touch of blueberries, and then muscular notes of florals, spice, and a deeply wound beefy, meaty, earthy pulling away into a long, full finish. All quite nice - just that it lacked a touch to finesse. There was lots of charming, if rather rustic generosity on this though. Rather delicious stuff, starting to show well now, but with some upside to it yet.

May 29, 2018 - Piercing acidity- resembles a Barolo. Stewed strawberries, dry tannins. Somewhat harsh wine which has yet to soften.

May 6, 2017 - I had great expectations for this producer.
Hard, monolithic wine. There is power and concentration, but it does not salivate and is a little flat. It improves slightly after three hours of oxygen, but it never amazes me.

October 17, 2015 - Transparent brilliant ruby-garnet. Dark, ripe, slightly shrivelled Damson plum, violets and raspberry jelly. Succulently juicy acidity, satiny mouthfeel, fine-grained tannin and well-integrated alcohol. Medium long finish features abundant juicy red fruit and a delicate touch of fennel seed.

April 28, 2011 - A difficult wine (the Vougeot Clos du Village) that showed flat, but the second day it showed more quality and dept.
The colour is light, the bouquet is pure and the mid- and aftertaste are pure, fresh, but light.
    Too young? Maybe.
