Community Tasting Notes 1

August 27, 2012 - From the list at the Oustau de Baumaniere. Less than 1/20 the price of the recent release sold at Christie's, but great provenance nonetheless having been supplied direct to the hotel by Moet some 40 years ago.

A deep bronzy yellow, with a slight spritz to it. The bottle opened with a slight psshh, or a nun's fart to use the technical term.

The nose was all baked apples with cinnamon, cooked in a tarte tatin. Very lively with remarkable vigour.

A stunning, rich palate of creme anglais, more apples, bitter chocolate and a hint old Sherry and iron filings. Drunk over two hours, it only got better as it opened up.

To think this was produced 100 years ago, and is still fighting fit is remarkable. A privilege to experience and a joy to drink.
