July 18, 2020 - still quite hot from palette to finish which made the wine not as attractive. note is quite muted, same as mid palette with slight savory and mild spices.... developing some personality but the hotness of the alcohol minus a few points

June 28, 2015 - Appearance: Bright and clear, it has deep ruby color, with garnet rims and legs.
Nose: Clean, with pronounced intensity aromas of black fruit such as blackberry, bilberry and bramble, dried fruit of prune, pungent spice of licorice, kernel notes of coffee, oak notes of vanilla, maturity notes of savory. The wine is developing.
Palate: Dry with medium acidity, the wine has medium (+) tannin which is ripe and well-integrated, with high alcohol and full body. It has pronounced flavors of black fruit such as bilberry, bramble and blackberry, dried fruit of prune, pungent spice of licorice, oak notes of vanilla. The wine has a medium (+) finish.
Conclusion: Very good quality Australian Shiraz with a very intense nose showing good range of complexity, much younger than the years of ageing in bottle, the wine has a high alcohol though not apparent because of the concentrated fruit and oak characters. Although one cannot say it is elegant, it does show power and a robust style of nature, with also a fairly long finish. It is ready to drink now though can benefit from further ageing of another 3-5 years.

June 21, 2015 - Not sure what has happened here but this is all oak. There is good fruit in there but it seem all a bit overdone and a bit out of balance. Has great length and depth but the oak really sticks out on this one at the moment.

February 12, 2015 - Big. bold, rich and juicy in a veritable Barossa-sort of way - the kind of juice you need sometimes, to smooth things over. The fruit is unique in it's abundance , the underlying, peppery spiciness keeps the backbone in place - very good wine (at a ridicules price).

December 19, 2012 - Had this wine on release at a few tastings but this is the first bottle we have opened from the cellar. First release of this wine from Troy Kalleske and from memory was well received by the press, especially Mr Parker. So expectations were relatively high for this wine. Decanted for 3 hours prior to consumption, this wine is still wound very tight, even though it is nearly 10 years old. Lots of blackberry, prune and cherry fruit exude from the glass. On the palate, the oak has integrated with the fruit nicely but there is still some room for improvement. There is lots going on in this wine, many layers of flavour and more time in the cellar will only do wonders for this wine. Plenty of elegant fruit on the palate but at its current stage of evolution, there is a whack of oak on the finish which detracts from the overall experience. This is definitely a wine of class but we will have to wait a little bit longer before this beautiful butterfly emerges fully from its cocoon. Will give it another 5 years at least before I try the next bottle.
