April 16, 2015 - Dark glass-clinging purple red. Blackberry, licorice, and leather in the nose and palate. Tannins have moderated to a downright approachable level, but still quite present. Medium long dark finish.

December 23, 2013 - Slightly bricking color with a dark red black core. Funky and leathery on the nose and palate. This seems to be marred by brett or possibly slightly corked. Clenched on the palate. I don't mind a bit of brett but this is too bad as I can sense that a nice wine lurks beneath the funk. Early on these were hard and in need of cellar time. Fully resolved now and this would be quite pleasant if not for the brett or corkiness. My last bottle.

November 26, 2013 - Oh my! What a stunning Irouléguy. Brana prefers Cabernet Franc to Tannat, and so in this wine he uses the AOC minimum of 30% Tannat with the rest split among Cab Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon (mostly the former). It's got all that crazy Irouléguy stony/gravelly funk on the nose, but on the palate its just a deep, muscled, but very refined, absurdly pure powerhouse of a wine, all deep red and red-black fruits and hallmark Cab Franc flavors. Super intense with little weight, and it's just starting to soften a tiny bit around the edges. There's not a trace of fat or overripeness. This is easily my best experience with Brana's wines; I guess they do well with age.

November 12, 2009 - Dark and deep. Some graphite, smoke, and a core of black cherry fruit. Big structure but OK to drink now with food. Should continue to improve would be my guess. Definitely better as it opens over several hours.

June 15, 2008 - a promising wine: classic borlelais nose of pencil shavings and lead. elegant medium bodied palate with a slate-y character and long tannic finish. the overall package is very fine but lacks a certain complexity . . . which might emerge with further bottle age.
