July 25, 2023 - Super. A touch dark and still tannic but a proper wine. A little muscular with a lovely brooding quality. Some leather and dark fruit but super depth as well.

June 1, 2023 - The tannins have mellowed somewhat but still a big wine that needs roasted or BBQ meat to stand up to it. One of the better Madirans I’ve had, but I’m not sure it’s a style of wine I’m eager to have often

June 11, 2022 - The wine looks ruby colored. The legs are medium. There is no sediment in the bottle. It smells like blackberry, blueberry, cranberry, red currant, black currant, licorice and mint. It tastes like black currant, blackberry, blueberry, cranberry and red currant. The body is medium. The wine has round texture. The wine finishes medium. The wine has high acidity. The wine is still very good in conditions and i plan to drink my last one 2 or 3 years later. with its high acidity, it's very good to have it with steak.

April 17, 2022 - A rather surprising vintage of Montus, as all other 2007's I've had from Madiran had a more austere, tannic feel to them, and also this is made in a much more mid-weight 'claret' fashion than is common for the house style. with a decent streak of refreshing acidity. Interesting.

Clearly still has years left in it, as even at 15 years of age, it is still to develop tertiary flavours fully.
