June 24, 2023 - I have had some bottle variation with these, but this one was delicious. Poured into a decanter, and then enjoyed over the next couple of hours. This one showed more red fruited, with aged notes of leather, and earth. Light mint and licorice accents. Lots of sediment.

November 24, 2022 - This has been standing up in the cellar for a couple of months. Decanted to remove a crazy amount of sediment. This bottle is nothing like previous bottles. Very brown and smells like tawny port. I poured just a little taste and there is no fruit. Weird. Previous bottles had quite a bit of fruit. I’ll see what happens in about three hours, but it is not looking good for this bottle right now.
This ended up going down the drain. Win some, lose some. Hopefully our remaining bottles are more like the first few we had. -

July 28, 2020 - Long Italian Lunch, 28 July, 2020; 7/27/2020-7/28/2020 (Pokai Parera, Ekatahuna, New Zealand): Drunk next to the 2007 vintage, this came across as the more developed wine (although to my tastes, this still needs development in the bottle to reach its ultimate apogee). Superb aromatics: totally Nebbiolo, Great richness of flavour, with firm and classy tannic structure. Incredibly long and complex. Fabulous. 95+

May 22, 2020 - I wasn't expecting much from this bottle but figured it needed to be consumed soon. Vietti did have a foray into some modern methods entering the mid-late 90s as they tried to expand into more international markets. Lazzarito has the reputation for a more modern style than Rocche.
Upon opening it is quite apparent this bottle had been preserved well, and looked younger than stated age. A wonderful panoply of all sorts of rich fruit and earthy aromas. Years of bottle age have softened the tannins to a caressing velvety texture. Rich earth, mushroom, and tones of leather and herbs upon a structure of deep red fruit. Just beautiful juice at its apogee.
Savoring this in the glass illustrates all the reasons why one would want to collect and age Barolo wines for over 20 years. An incredible surprise and certainly one of the best bottles I've opened this year. -

April 25, 2020 - Decanted for a couple of hours before dinner. I am glad this has been standing up in the cellar for a while as there was a lot of sediment. Initially this was still fairly closed. Showing mostly darker tones of fruit, black licorice and some earthy notes. After about three hours, this started to open beautifully. Menthol, cherries, floral notes, fine leather. The hot vintage shows some, but this bottle was delicious. This drank great with Ann’s beef stew.
