March 17, 2024 - Light-bodied and foursquare, this tasted like a simple Lalande-de-Pomerol. I think I should skip on the Durantou stable's lesser wines and splurge on the Grand Vin instead, even if only for one bottle

December 26, 2023 - Obvious family resemblance to the '09 Cruzelles; glossy Merlot fruit, a kiss of oak, undeniably delicious. Between the two bottles, I gave this one the nod because the finish was more complex, more savory. It overall presents as a more serious wine.

June 10, 2023 - Red and dark berries in the bouquet, same on the palate, fresh and juicy acidity and still sticky tannin. Beautiful wine.

July 21, 2022 - Needs three hours - until then what you can taste is a simple wine with high alcohol. Gets much more complex with that decant, though.

March 11, 2022 - 45 mins decant. Opened up more around 1.5 hours in where I'm writing this.

Nose: Complex and evolving. This will open up more. Dark and red cherries, pomegranate, tar, wet bark, forest floor. Very earthy and some spices coming around now from the barrel. Vanilla pod and a sweet twist like star anise or licorice.

Palate: Quite high acidity balanced out by a good amount of red fruit. The palate at this point is not as complex as the nose. Alcohol sticking out a little too. Tar and earthy notes dominate with some bright citrus fruit among pure cherries of all stages of maturity. Tannins still alive with a decent grip left in them.

I'd like to try this wine in another 3-4 years, but I don't think it has the fruit to last another decade. The nose more than makes up for it though. A really interesting wine that makes you respect the terroir and pedigree it comes from. The grand vin must be out of this world.
