Community Tasting Notes 4

March 15, 2013 - This is quite heavy in its dark plum and raisin fruits, shows a lot of alcohol, and there is a heavy cola flavor pervading the whole wine. I think this was probably decent as a hedonistic big pinot near the time of release, but I think even the few years of bottle age have brought this down, as compared to what I tasted in the tasting room when I bought my one bottle.

September 10, 2012 - Definitely "New World" style - dark red in the glass, with aromas dominated by alcohol. On the palate, the brooding color from the glass is gone -- replaced by mellow fruit with balanced tannins, and a medium-long finish.

November 12, 2010 - Cork showed stains up to top suggesting some heat exposure. But clearly a dense, extracted style of Pinot very much resembling something from the Southern Rhone. Like a young Chateauneuf du Pape. Forrest floor and dark fruits on the nose. Full bodied and well-oaked flavors with some heat. Eucalyptus and pine flavors. Metallic initially. Opened up with an hour in the decanter. Clearly a question of style here. If you like modern Grenache, this is the Pinot for you. But I think some Cotes du Rhone Villages or various crus like Gigondas, Cairanne or Vinsobres level would offer a superior QPR for this style.
