February 10, 2021 - Like meeting an old friend. I bought 2 or 3 of these on release and drank them within a few years. After buying a good bit of Bordeaux in the 2000 vintage I was not heavy into the hype-less 2001s. But it is an above average vintage especially on the Right Bank. Found a couple more of these recently for a good price and bought them. This wine is quite recognizable even after 15-12 years. A bit of band-aid in the bouquet, some cherries and menthol in the mouth, and a very fine mouthfeel with good density. This bottle was probably well-stored, and could keep longer but this is spot on. A very nice merlot from Bordeaux, in a more classic style for Saint Emilion.

August 29, 2020 - A sentimental wine, this was what I served at my PhD thesis defense after-party in grad school. I find I actually prefer Right Bank wines in '01 to '00, as they tend to be lower alcohol, more restrained, less ripe, and a bit more rustic and classic in their fruit profile. This has a lovely nose of cedar, black plums, anise and mocha. Black cherries, plums and cassis on the palate, accented by some bay leaf and smoked meat, finishing with slightly dry, moderate tannins. A finesse wine, and well balanced, with no signs of fading. Great value at <$15.

April 15, 2020 - Perfect. Merlots of 2001 seem to have aged quite a bit better than the cabernets

May 19, 2019 - Classical, strong Bordeaux, strong blackcurrant on the palate and a distinct tannic finish. Purple/brownish in the glass, nice blackcurrant nose. Wine is in the early stage of it’s drinking window and will still improve with age. 5-10 years to full maturity.

    May 30, 2018 - 6/6, good cork. Decanted 1/2 hour.
Medium/deep garnet core, pale garnet rim. Plummy fruit, some strawberry too, earth. Medium bodied, plummy and red fruit, spice, perhaps the odd touch of herb, attractively savoury and quite complex with attractive fresh acidity but still some slightly rough tannins at the end of the good length finish. Still, very good indeed.
