Community Tasting Notes 9

February 9, 2022 - Decanted about an hour and served in Grassel Cru glasses, consumed over dinner and a bit beyond. The nose showed a little reduction at first, but that quickly dissipated and gave way to waves of black cherry and baking spices with a good dose of lavender on the follow through. Medium bodied and nicely plush without being overtly ripe at all. Quite smooth and complete through the mid, good persistence and a harmonious finish. A lovely bottle of burgundy, performing just exactly as it should and in fact exceeding expectations to a certain extent. The fruit was bright and lively, with nicely integrated structure and acid, and there was enough complexity and depth to continually invite the next sip. The CT notes are, to me, clearly taken way too young. This wine was a beautiful match with homemade duck confit with a sauce of mustard, creme fraiche, stock, chives, brussels sprouts and garlic confit. I list all those elements because the wine really rose to the task presented both in terms of flavor and texture. This was our first bottle of wine this year, and our break of Dry January, so perhaps my appreciation was enhanced by several weeks of abstinence. In the end, it hardly matters what made it so delicious, just that it was so delicious. I would gladly fill my cellar with overperforming 1er crus like this from lower tier producers - and will while I still can.

May 6, 2021 - At 20 years old, this drank more like a 5 year old - POP'ed and the acidic attack came right off the bat, with fruits displaying a very youthful nature. Finish was unfortunately thin. A pleasurable first wine of the night, if underdlivering against its VR pedigree.

No formal notes. I have to say that I enjoyed tasting this wine more than drinking it. There were some persistent cherry notes from the nose throughout to the finish.
