March 8, 2018 - Medium bodied, very smooth and balanced, very subtle bread, a little fruity sweetness, perhaps a hint of caramel. Overall quite dry without much heat. Difficult to really pinpoint any specific flavors but overall it is singing beautifully. Very good.

August 18, 2015 - Medium amber color; lovely fragrant nose, earthy, herbal palate, dried fruit, biscuit-malty, moderate alcohol, light fruitiness, very well balanced. Really enjoy this style and moderate+ weight/alc. at 7.5%

October 26, 2014 - Rochefort are some of my favourite ales. I've loved them for many years. The first time I had one may have been when I was in Brugge in 1991. This one has a good head, of medium size (at least the way I poured it, which was slowly and carefully, tilting the glass), aromatic and uneven (the unevenness is a sign of a more complex, better quality Belgian ale), and slow to dissipate. The nose is light and mildly aromatic, but you can tell from the smell that you don't have just the average beer, but quite a step above. The colour is light red, an orange-ish red, and cloudy, which is normal. The flavour is stronger than the nose, and slightly sweet, like an extra dry champagne but not as sweet as a sec. This bottle is very fresh; the expiry date is September 2018. The label says authentic Trappist product, and the Trappist brothers make the best ales in Belgium imo. Unfortunately I didn't have the right shape of glass; I needed a wide goblet. I should have used a red wine glass. I was too eager to drink such a delightful beverage, and at first didn't let it warm up a little in the glass; but then I did and the flavour shone. 7% alcohol by volume. I paid $7 for this bottle. Overall value: 3.5 stars of 5. Overall impression: excellent (90).

No doubt the beers from this house age well. Looking good at 6yrs but I don't think there is much left as the chocolate and malt is clearly fading in the back palate. Otherwise supper pleasant and reminds me quite a bit of the 2 Brothers Grizz Amber I had last night.

September 19, 2012 - 7.5% Dull tea coloured, with some head. Expressive nose of dark malt, salted caramel and marmite. Sweet and fruity on the taste, with some dark floral spice. Chewy, savory and substantial, almost a rye bread, though of course nothing close to its 8 and 10 cousins. Good drinking!
