November 28, 2023 - Deep ruby in color. A bit of sediment is present. A lot younger looking than its age should reflect. Cherry, blackberry, licorice on the nose. Along with iron, fresh meat carcass, and wet soil. On the palate, ripe but no heat or overripeness. There are no dried or stewed fruits. The palate isn't as wild as the nose, it was resolved, velvety smooth. The finish is long. Amazingly, the whole group thought this still tasted young. I think it's at peak maturity for me but it should linger there for quite some time.

November 25, 2022 - I brought this magnum to remind us of NYE where we drank the same wines at another four seasons in another city…. I was worried this bottle might not show as well, as I purchased it on line and had no idea the provenance. Whereas our NYE bottle had been stored at the hotel since purchase.
My fears were unfounded, this one was perfect. Delicious mature fruit and spices. Layers of complexity and a long finish. The bottle was consumed very quickly at our table so probably not more than 30-60 min of air at the most.

February 28, 2022 - More relaxed than last time, quite juicy and fun - for a Clape. Certainly no reverend Ian Paisley here, the warm vintage speaks, but there is no sense of heat, no prunes, nu burned notes, just ripe fruit. Core of chery hjere. Still young, but a great pleasure - and probably one of the easier wines to understand for non-afficionados.

December 31, 2021 - From a magnum at the Four Seasons in Paris, and the birth years of two of our group. This was absolutely stunning and right in its drinking window. So much fruit, red and black fruit with black raspberries and licorice at the forefront. Initial smokiness on the palate and continued to evolve. Sweet but not overpowering. Tannins completely resolved. A medium weighted Syrah that complemented the diverse dishes of the tasting menu without overpowering any of them. Could not stop sniffing this wine all night long. Happy New Year!!

October 30, 2021 - 6th of 12, opened 90 minutes, perfect cork and level, consistently attractive, intense and persistent, still on the fruit with new black raspberry element reminding me of CdPs Mordoree (which is c.30% Syrah) and even Pignan (curiously nearly all Grenache), upside and 10+ years. F+ (18).

(Domaine Auguste Clape Cornas) Lots of toast on nose along with plush black fruit and milk chocolate; tasty black fruit and good sap on palate supported by plush tannins, long finish 93 pts.
