50 + Kleur: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 12 + Smaak / Afdronk: 17 + Algemeen / potentieel: 8 = 92/100

Color: Rose with a light orange discoloration Aroma / bouquet: Despite the average drinkability indication of CellarTracker (2010 - 2014) a pleasant but - especially for an SQN - not (anymore) very expressive bouquet. A remnant of strawberries, melon and above all clear and pleasant bitter tones of orange peel. Taste / Aftertaste: Fresh and mouth-filling start, round and filming. No fresh 'aperitif or terrace' rosé, but a beautifully complex, culinary rosé with a very subtle hint of caramel. Lactic, with an accent of buttermilk. Butter soft, refined tannins. A subtle impression of pepper. Impressively long finish. General / potential: Rose as only Manfred Krankl can make him. Unique, incomparable and insanely tasty. And as far as I'm concerned, not LONG yet at the end of its life. 50 + Color: 5 + Aroma / bouquet: 12 + Taste / Finish: 17 + General / potential: 8 = 92/100

May 24, 2018 - At the oenotheque machines at Hedonism in London. To put in context, the price of the 1 oz pour was awfully close on a per volume construct to the Le Pin we had earlier in the week. And this is rose. So I’d say it’s gotten a bit overpriced for what it is. But I was excited to try anyway. It’s good. Very fruit forward but in a more interesting way. Orange peel and ripe ripe cantaloupe and maybe a more mineral note. Super fresh. Hard to believe there was 9 years on this. Small pour so did not sit with it for an extended time, but I can believe it would evolve and change. One of the better (but more intense) roses I’ve had. Just still, it’s a rose so don’t think I’d opt for a full bottle over some other options.

November 29, 2017 - SQN Big Guns Night, Beefbar, HK. SQN In Extremis.

Showing very well compared to a couple of years ago. This starts as candied fruit, ripe and fresh strawberries mixed together, honey, burnt orange on the nose. Then it is substantive on the palette with gamey, chewy relish of jam compote, berries galore and precise delineated finish of great length. There is some variation amongst rosés from the Krankls but this is definitely showing very well now.

Over the evening, the wine developed in glass actively, notes of chocolate, mint, popcorn caramel. Much later it developed port like flavours, oriental herbs, spices like star anise. Distinctly Chinese tonic herbals, hay and straw, but without any metallic notes. Full circle back to this with cheeses at the end is magical. Save some for that !

October 15, 2017 - This clear and rust colour wine was drank at home. With noticeable caramel and dark cherries on the nose, this slightly hot wine is certainly not your typical rose bottle. Somewhat common for a SQN rose in that it had flavours of ripe cherries, honey, dark chocolate along with some chalkiness. This wine actually had some tannins to it and had a decently long finish as well.

July 25, 2016 - This was opened at home and poured right away. The wine was clear and somewhere between orange and rust in colour. Not like most Rose wines but almost a light Pinot Noir. The nose was quite vibrant with smells of red cherries, oranges, and a good amount of honey (there was also a slight mustiness right after opening but that went away quickly).
In the glass was quite a thick wine with flavours of oranges, cherries, and a good amount of caramel. The tannins were light but the acidity was at a moderate level and it had a surprisingly long finish. This is not everybody's prototypical idea of a bottle of Rose, but I enjoyed it.
