Community Tasting Notes 20

December 4, 2020 - So this seems like it WANTS to be madeirized, but nope. Seems like it wants to be a white dessert wine, but nope again. This is a hard wine to like honestly. There is some honeysuckle here. Not much, but it's here. Otherwise there is a lot of acidity. Almost wondering if this was really past its prime as it seemed to be losing its fruit. Really thought that this one was going to hold its density, but it really hasn't done that. As I think that this one is past its prime I will hold on a rating here that will hurt the average, but I'd give this one an 85.

June 6, 2016 - Pale yellow core with green reflections. The nose is pure Gewurz, with loads of rosewater and lychee, showing a bit of heat. Surprisingly youthful on the palate, this shows almost no age despite the low acidity. The wine is dry and full-bodied, almost oily in the mouth, yet the low acidity dulls the delicate fruit (roses, lychee and pears). Somewhat in the same no-hold-barred style as a Martinelli Gewurz I tasted several years ago, yet not quite pulling it off. Still an impressive effort.

September 9, 2015 - Never in my life of group tasting wine have I ever seen six tasters' faces practically implode from schock and dislike the way they did when I poured this putrid, vile excuse for a gewurztraminer. Tasted like a compost tea of bitter raw artichokes, rotten peaches and charcoal lighter fluid. Hideous, absolutely hideous.

March 1, 2013 - Oily, yellow to pale gold. Perol, licorice and peach, not the usual Gewurz spices. As always with Abe's wines, interesting, more then compelling.

January 11, 2013 - Pale gold, straw in color. Nose of soft spice -- not a lot of gewurtz spice, but some clove and cinnamon. Over whelming impression at the outset is oily. Petroleum, mouth filling, citrus and ripe fruit, with more oil. Not your classic Alsatian gewurtz, but well made and (as all of Abe's wines) always interesting.
