Community Tasting Notes 28

  • chokkon Likes this wine:

July 5, 2013 - no decant; burnished ruby red; smoky nose, loads of barn, wet leather, sodden earth; silk on the tongue, still vigorous fruit and dusty, tense tannins, lingering finish; bacon, schist, dried (and fresh) black cherries, mint, sage, chocolate, tobacco, funghi; ditto previous notes, this has it all goin' on, deep mystery, completely seductive (a touch bretty; bottle variation, or getting a old?); a great value; 19

July 23, 2012 - 18c; no decant; dusty, black-purple; gorgeous nose of mint, earth, wet leather, clove, funghi, freshly ground pepper; lovely balance, viscous, with plush fruit, tense tannins, seductively long finish; bacon, schist, black cherry, stewed plum, clove, mint, Tuscan herbs (it's all there); I LOVE this wine, at once youthful and mature; (judging by Cellar Tracker Community Avg price, chianti gets no respect; a great value!); 19.5.

January 6, 2012 - 18c; opened bottle an hour and a half prior to tasting, poured a shoulder glass; dusty, reddish-purple; gorgeous nose of bacon, black and red cherries, leather, pepper, rosemary, sage, barn; solid spine of acid, ripe fruit and chewy tannins; bacon, schist, ripe black and red cherries, prunes, red licorice, sage, pepper, coffee; getting a wee long-in-tooth, yet a lovely treat; 18.

December 26, 2011 - Xmas eve bottle, too many people to give it proper attention. It showed well, opened 2 hours before drinking, really nice smooth dark fruit. Happy with the performance of this bottle at a family holiday event. From mag.
