  April 14, 2016 - Tasted at the winery. This is a very classy, complex and beautiful wine that is 100% single-vineyard (oldest vines) Sangiovese. But, it is also over-priced, in my opinion. €80 is a tough sell for most wines, this one is no exception. That said, €55 or so would be a very good value for a rich, but ultimately quite well-balanced and seriously structured wine. I have to admire La Massa's very careful grape selection that utilizes two large sorting tables for grapes that come from only several hundred meters away from the cellar. The oak is 30% new for 14 months, and following that period is 6 months in concrete before going to bottle to rest prior to release. Native yeasts, and all hand-picked, this is truly a fantastic wine with a haunting nose and satisfying palate. Probably best to hold his for 2-3 more years, at least, to allow for even more complexity to develop. 14,5% abv (resolved on the nose, but not quite so fully on the palate). recommended, thru 2029.
