Community Tasting Notes 2

February 24, 2015 - Quite pale, slightly green lemon color. The nose starts off very thinner-like with an almost industrial chemical air to it, but that blows off quite quickly. After that, aromas of grassy greenness, some aromatic herbs, a little floral complexity and hints of yellow stone fruits. Full-bodied, rich and robust on the palate with powerful flavors of honey, cantaloupe, almond spice, some greenness, a little bit of wax and a hint of refreshing minerality. The wine is rather modest on the acidity with somewhat oily mouthfeel. The somewhat waxy aftertaste follows the midpalate with a lighter touch; flavors of stony minerality, spice, some cantaloupe and hints of crunchy startfuit.

Although the wine shows some nice depth and complexity, it is a bit too low and acidity and ponderous in style. Even though Nova Serra is considered to be one of the finest Grecos in the market, I'm not impressed. Probably this is just a poor vintage? I'd love to see how this wine ages, but with this low acidity I can't see much cellaring potential here. However, the wine has some real concentration and ripe fruit to it, so it might be that the wine could actually survive several years in the cellar. Who knows? At 12,90€, this wine was worth its price.

December 24, 2013 - Very young, tight on the palate with lots of minerals, white flowers, herbs and some tropical fruits. Nice acidity and a little oily texture. Long finish and over all a great wine that drinks well now or may be cellared for many years.
