  • Nico P. Likes this wine:

March 19, 2024 - 14.5% dark red core, juicy acidity, dark berries, slight tobacco. A better bottle than my last one, less advanced, hardly any tertiary notes. Grippy.

January 7, 2023 - 14.5% Initial funk, wet earth, mushrooms, old cigar box. Toasted wood, tobacco, some lifted black cherry / plum peeking from behind. Taste of herbs, tart cherry, paired with still grippy tannins.Going on fifteen years and starting to show tertiary character. Stored temperature controlled since purchase. Good longevity for an entry level wine. Two more bottles, better start to drink these up.

December 10, 2020 - Quite nice. Dark and ripe; the Cabernet definitely dominates the Sangiovese here. Dark black cherry, bitter chocolate, anise, tobacco and herbs. Supple, very new world with loads of dark fruit. The Sangiovese adds a bit of complexity but it is quite mild and probably not identifiable blind as a 50% component of the blend.

November 7, 2020 - This wine still has some nice fruit. There was sediment at the bottom of the bottle. Very nice.

August 17, 2020 - First bottle of this in 9 years... when I had it in 2011 I thought the fruit too forward and "modern" for my palate, and suspected some time resting would mellow it out and I'd find it more enjoyable. Currently the aromas are fairly subdued, with just light bits of darkly complected plums showing through. On big sniffs I get lots of chalk dust and volcanic rock. The palate is soft and very smooth. Nothing angular about it, as it coats the palate in an almost creamy sensation... initially. The flavors are light on the palate, but the overall experience is quite luscious. As its held some acid pokes through along with darker fruits, but it does take a while to develop this. Actually, now that it's been in my mouth for 15 seconds, acid is actually fairly dominant, which I quite enjoy. That acid carries into the finish, but it's coupled with large scaled fruits like plum and blackberries. My whole first glass I was just taking simple, small, short sips with dinner and didn't even notice the acid. After I let this last sip hold in my mouth for 30 seconds, all I feel on the finish is acidity even a minute later, which for my palate, is very enjoyable, and is a lovely counterpoint to the scale of the fruit. All in all, I find this far more enjoyable than it was near release. This is drinking at peak, for me, for this bottle. I was going to say maybe slightly on the decline due to the stewed fruit notion, but I commented on that 9 years ago; that's just the nature of the wine. However, the tannin and acid has fallen far more in balance with the fruit, and that acid has somehow really ratcheted up on the finish. Probably because the tannins have almost entirely resolved.

(PERLATO DEL BOSCO Tua Rita) Tua Rita Dear Friends, There’s nothing like a nice round of holiday cheer in January when the festive tide turns to the chill of winter... This was supposed to be one of our final Holiday Specials in December but I could not confirm it until this morning. Without going into one of my typical diatribes, this absolutely crazy offer speaks for itself. The 2007 version of this wine made a giant splash in the US and the 2008 looks to be as good or even better with a distinctly vinous and noble style as opposed to the rougher and sweeter 2007 I know this sounds crazy as it’s only the 5th of January, but I'm not sure this deal can be topped in 2011. here goes... FIRST COME FIRST SERVED up to 36/person until we run out NO SALES TO RETAILERS OR WHOLESALERS – this is a “thank you” offer for our Email List: 2008 Tua Rita “Perlato del Bosco” (Vino da Tavola/Toscana) - (this is not the Bianco, compare at $25-35 in Europe, up to $55 in the US) To aid the warehouse in packing, please try to order in quantities of 3 (3, 6, 12, 24, etc) - thank you in advance.
