95 Points

Tuesday, November 20, 2012 - From the sweet and spicy nose that married black pepper and sweet tart notes to the powerful tannins and black fruit layers, there was loads going on in this wine. It followed a 1998 St. Hallett Old Block Shiraz in our tasting, and pretty much turned the dial up to 11 (but not ungracefully). Though this was a remarkably rich, powerful wine it carried itself with an Ali-like precision and grace that belied it's size and power. The wine was still very youthful, with big tannins, but there was so much concentration in the blackberry and black raspberry fruit that it all melded together. Hints of coffee and coconut added nuance throughout.
