Sunday, March 16, 2014 - I now see how this wine is polarizing. It is big and nearly syrupy, but there's no doubt that the grapes and winemaking are solid, so it becomes a matter of taste. For me, this is "prototypical Paso," which is a shame, as so much of Paso has realized that it has much more to offer. Had this have been cofermented with Viognier or similar, it could've been awesome as it needs a "cutter," which is probably why I prefer/love the '08 Epoch blends. As such, it is a syrah that virtually anyone could ID as syrah. I'm not certain that 4-5 years will change anything, or that any more will cause further integration or make it worth the wait.
