93 Points

Monday, December 29, 2014 - I think CdP wines are becoming my new favorite as it seems I never really get a bad bottle of CdP regardless of producer or vintage. My other favorites like Brunello can suffer from sour bottles, Bordeaux can have weak, flabby bottles, Napa Cabs can be too oaky or vegatal but CdP seems to be consistent in delivering a pleasurable experience.

I last had the 2008 as it was just released at then end of a 2004-07 vertical tasting with an informal wine group. It was a pop'n pour at that time and suffered in comparison to the other 4 vintages, which had some age and had all been decanted but I did rate it a solid 90. So it was a pleasant surprise to visit this 3 years later and it developed nice complexities on the nose of Asian spices, barnyard, dried fruit. Poured into a decanter but we started drinking this before, during and after dinner (fish sauteed in peppers, olives and onions) and it was pretty darn consistent, gaining some nuances on the palate after an hour or so. A solid 93 point effort in my book.
