Saturday, September 24, 2022 - Double decanted at 9am then carried through the day to various locations in NJ before having with dinner at an excellent BYO restaurant in Flemington, NJ (Matt’s Red Rooster Grill). When decanted the nose was effusive with earthy cedar, black currant and some barnyard notes. Later it needed additional air in a decanter after which the barnyard (Brett?) faded considerably but remained a nuance throughout. One could consider it a flaw but it was in this case more of a feature. The wine showed no bricking at all, surprisingly and seems like it could least a good deal longer in a good cellar though I doubt with much improvement. The nose was pretty typical and the palate was red and black fruited, with cedar, leather, and some floral notes with a nice long finish. Silky mouthfeel. Great with a veal chop as well as seared tuna and mushroom risotto. Solid Bordeaux of the old school but not a blowout. Better with lots of air.
