2017 Querciabella Batàr

92 Points

Tuesday, October 4, 2022 - Initially I was really impressed as the wine managed to combine both the citrusy notes (the freshness part) with tropical fruits, melon, vanilla, toffee (the hedonistic part).
With more air the wine turns heavier, more somber and oxidative (and less fresh) with the vanilla/toffee/melon part more dominant. However there is more acidity/structure and also more depth when compared to the Felton Bannockburn Chard tasted yesterday.
Overall this is a very good effort that is quite Burgundian in nature and an excellent wine per se, just not exactly my cup of tea at the moment.
92-93.
