Sunday, October 16, 2022 - Cellar tracker is showing two different bottles for this wine. The label on the other wine matched our bottle, but is Montagne st. Emilion and the other bottling listed something else. This bottle was from Eric’s dad’s cellar and showed really well. Lots of fruit left, with earthy mushroom accents. Soft. Enjoyed this a lot. A treat, knowing the provenance.

8/7/2023 5:49:00 PM - Thanks for the note! Was your wine a bottle of the Chateau Calon from Montagne St. Emilion or from St. Georges St. Emilion? The St. Georges entry on CT you referenced contains images that belong in the Montagne entry, so it’s not clear which wine you actually had. There is a great deal of confusion about these two wineries, which are not related as far as I can tell. I would love to know which wine you had because I’m looking at buying a bottle of the 1961 Calon Montagne St. Emilion.

Experts say that ‘61 was so good that even the petit chateau made amazing wine that can still be worth a try at a good price if the provenance looks decent. You guys had a good experience with this wine, and that tells me a good experience is still possible. Once again, I appreciate your input and effort on this.
