Monday, December 26, 2022 - Cork disintegrated upon extraction- even using a Durand. Gobs of chunky sediment in the bottle. Medium deep ruby/garnet in colour fading gracefully to the rim. Wonderful nose of dark fruitcake, rum raisin and warm spices. Super smooth, rich and thick on the palate, still some drying tannins, a spirited alcohol. Sweet and dark dried fruits, treacle, slight smoke, some woody notes and spice. Finishes sweet and long, but with still a bit of tea-like tannins to cleanse the palate. Lovely!

Day 2: raisins and dark fruitcake still on the nose with some spice and subtle woodsmoke as well. More balanced on the palate. The sweetness is nicely balanced by the acid and alcohol. The palate is a lovely blend of fruitcake, treacle and raisin, as well as some woody notes. The finish is long and sweet but with a tongue tingling acidic bite at the end. Not at all tired or fading. Perfectly mellow and integrated at thia point. Very, very lovely indeed!
