1986 Ridge Petite Sirah Essence

85 Points

Wednesday, June 12, 1991 - At home after dinner. Well-developed ruby color; developing a bit of brick at the rim. Thick. Excellent viscosity. Gorgeous. Nose is somewhat shy, though there is sweet, tobacco-scented fruit lurking. Flavor is somewhat "different." Broad and expansive on the palate. Starts out having an attractive flavor I'm SO familiar with, but can't identify--almost like a tawny Port; very "nutty." Finish falls off a bit. Sweet. This wine is at its peak--absolutely. 5-9-14-7: 85/100.
