Saturday, May 13, 2023 - Just stunning now! And for a non-single vineyard wine, a level of depth and concentration that is exceptional. On the nose, dark berries and some oak, with tart cherry and a hint of Gevrey rusticity-and hints of refined sinews. The palate is the knockout, with a sophistication emanating from a deep, solid core of purple fruit, tart cherry, a hint of cranberry, and some added Gevrey forest floor. I so wanted the Vosne-like pheasant plumes of floral fruit that never emerged, as the fruit was so rich and teasingly refined--but it remained a wine of younger vines and Gevrey in tone. One could almost swallow, as Mugnier has become au courant of late, the current stratospeheric retail cost. Saldy my only bottle.
