Sunday, July 2, 2023 - Probably drinking at or just past peak- dark currant, plum and berry, spice and smoke. Voluptuous, smooth, and sexy mouthfeel and just shy of overripe- so all good there. So as a come too lately Burgundy lover, long time Bordeaux drinker, and weaned on 80s, 90s, 2001 and 2002 California cabs ( and Sonoma Coast, ABC, and Oregon pinot) I can clearly define my line in the sand. This is on the side that I enjoy- the 1995 Shafer Hillside - while a tasty and well made wine -not so much, and the 97 Lokoya overripe, too sweet, and too alcoholic- clearly on the other side for me. First world problems!
