Wednesday, January 10, 2024 - PnP and that was a mistake. Medium ruby in color. Unless you are one of those strange folks who likes to chew on acorns, you should give this some air first. Just a wall of oak and spice upon opening and for the rest of day 1. On day 2, this was far better behaved. The oak receded behind black and red fruits, some cigar wrapper, and peppery spice. Medium minus body, fresh and juicy acidity, and quite soft and mature tannins for the age. This is a blend of Armenian indigenous varieties: 40% Areni, 35% Haghtanak and 25% Milagh (Kahket). I’ve had Areni before but this is my first time with the other two. I don’t remember a spicy pepperiness from my prior consumption of Areni so that probably came from the Milgah or Haghtanak. 13.5% alcohol. Decent value and unique enough for a $20 wine. Worth trying for yourself.
