Friday, February 23, 2024 - No. 7793. In the vein of the 2020, this is more of a red-fruited, lighter edition from the King in the North. Initially, this was worryingly angular with the fruit, alcohol, and tannins all just jutting out at different angles. A few hours of air rounds those sharp edges and the nose begins to show a sweet, red-fruited perfume with more spice notes than typical. The palate is relatively light, with more elegance than usual for a young vintage of this wine. It's actually quite approachable now with a decant because it doesn't have the stern tannins of the bigger vintages. The acidity feels more prominent, which I feel makes this a little more approachable young. This may not be the most profound or long-lived vintage, but Chave is Chave.
