95 Points

Sunday, March 12, 2006 - Took a full 9 hours at winter roon temp to open, but when it did, it was just about the purest expression of Quilceda Creek I've experienced. Very lush and fine tannin, full ripe--but not overripe--red and black fruits. Early, only tannin, alcohol, and oak came through, but once in full bloom, the oak became totally integrated aromatically and on the palate. Alcoholic heat, too, disappeared in the very full fruit aromas and flavors. I'd suggest keeping this wine another 7-10 years, probably, before opening another bottle, unless you have the time to allow the wine to open. Really a wonderful wine experience, even if it was enjoyed during the Seahawks' loss in Super Bowl XL.
