Thursday, December 31, 2009 - Very excited to try this guys stuff and recently acquired it. Also, seeing as I am the first reviewer, would like to get some info out there for y'all holding bottles! Pressure is on!? Popped and poured, sans food. Nice nose, subdued but vibrant fruit, not huge. The nose and palate are amazingly paired, congruent, for you math folks. Big but dense fruit on the palate with mild tannins that loom larger as one progresses through the bottle. Good mouth feel. Heavy for a 100% grenache, (great!), almost seems like there is a touch of something else blended in. Finish is not long. Halfway through the bottle, nose is expanding, little heat on the nose, 16.2% alcohol. Seems to be hitting the palate a bit too now. Perhaps the chill is dissipating. Going to finish tomorrow and supplement these notes. At this point though, would be great with steak (food wine for sure), and no hurry to drink this stuff, may need to integrate a bit more. Next day - held up and was basically the same sans the alcohol heat at room temperature. In thinking about it, the density of this wine reminds me of the Beckmen Purisima Vineyard stuff, but without their characteristic flavor that I do not dig.
