Tuesday, April 5, 2011 - Decanted for 3 hours. Nose of high alcohol for first 2, almost overwhelming. Taste was sharp about 1.5 hours into decant, and I was getting very worried. 2 hrs and 15 min into decant, notes of menthol and sweet fruit were starting to emerge. Improving, but still a long way to go. In my opinion, it never got there. Black fruit, some mint, and a little cedar were present from the 3 hour through 5 hour mark, but the fruit was definitely subdued compared to more modern QCs. Good, but not great. Everyone enjoyed it, but it never quite hit that next level. In fact, opinions were split between this and a '98 Stag's Leap Fay Cab we were also blind tasting alongside.
