Monday, August 1, 2011 - Quite a comedown after the 1er cru Burgundies we have opened in recent days. Rich, glass-staining red. Popped, aerated, poured. Initially yielded up a nose of...not much! A half hour or so later, a slight hint of berry fruit on the nose, but this was swamped by Sterno-like intensity from the alcohol. That incredible heat, and in-your-face tannins, marred the fruit taste (found it quite the opposite of fruit forward) and failed to smooth out even on day two. Conclusion from partner as he discreetly poured his glass down the sink: needs more time in the cellar. We shall see...
