Tuesday, August 3, 2010 - Those not au fait with the Australian political landscape may wish to tune out now. The 1993 Comtes Lafon Monthelie-Les-Duresses conjures up images of Tony Abbot for mine, it is muscular and slightly aggressive but it is also trying to be tender at times, thankfully no images of budgie smugglers were conjured during the consumption of this wine. The similarities of this wine and our nation’s political leaders does not end there, as just like Julia Gillard, the wine shows upfront sweetness and pleasant appeal, yet the fruit is nothing like Ms Gillard as its anything but manipulated. All right, I’ll now cease the try hard election analogies, this is fabulous juice, highly perfumed with plenty of purple flower action, a palate that is lean and focussed and terrific cut and super structure.
