To me this is grape-rape. Smoky, burnt, almost south african. Extracted, too much of a muchness, too little faith in Mencia and way too much belief in fancypants coldsoaking and overoaking. Which is terribly sad, because underneath all manipulation is a layer of exciting spicy and flowery typicity.

Points collected for structure and acidity, the body is medium-full and mouth-feel plesant. Pass.

    7/6/2012 7:57:00 AM - Hello Peblin,
Im no mencia expert and I agree Demencia is probably a bit more ripe than other mencias. However, I would like you to note that this wine is probably one of the most natural, grape firendly or whatever you want to call wine projects where the winemaker "intrusion" into the grape growing is non-existent. This wine is what these few vineyard plots and its vines give, nothing else. Also, the production is super tiny at 6,000 bottles. Also, I see this is 2007, which seems to need a few more time laying down. Finally, just out of curiosity at the comment of one of your guests, this wine has never been rated, tasted to be rated or sent samples to rate.
Hope this helps to "see" it a bit different.
