Monday, March 26, 2012 - I’d be inclined to give Pintia 2007 100 points, but I admit that I don’t have the money to try the wines that other people have rated 100, or even 97. So there’s no way for me to know whether there’s something more transcendent than the amazing elixir I sampled here. So I’ll just give it the highest score I’ve given any wine – 95. But I really don’t know what else to wish for: eternal wisdom, ecstasy, true love? We’re talking about crushed grapes, after all!
Pintia 2007 starts with a spectacular nose of expensive cologne, followed up by beautiful garnet color, nice weight, intense but not overpowering fruit and a long, lingering dry finish. It’s practically bewitched in the effortlessness of its perfection. So many other highly rated wines seem to be trying too hard – piling fruit, oak, alcohol and “old vine character” into a great pyre of excess. Pintia doesn’t leave me wanting for anything, and it doesn’t make me regret anything, either. Perfect.
