91 Points

Monday, June 25, 2012 - From mag... my last of the 01 Sang Lopy's... I had quite a few of these and they ranged anywhere from 90/91 (didn't seem to write TNs on those?) to the 74 below (which really represented a flawed bottle technically because of brett)... this last bottle was clearly the best one I have had of the lot and was certainly an "outstanding" bottle... deeply colored with a deeply colored rim that is ruby red. The syrah in this wine seems to be the dominant player with dark fruits, baking spices, hints of leather... definitely pick up some background grenache garrigue type aromas. On the palate high acidity, plenty of flesh in the midpalate, firm, ripe, integrate tannins, moderate alcohol. Balanced wine with very good length, great intensity, good complexity. Wine has good finesse, a very fine texture, very good expression of place. Think this wine is at its peak (esp in 750s) and will hold there for a couple more years... definitely some significant bottle variation out there with brett so beware...
