90 Points

Monday, May 6, 2013 - We decanted the wine for two hours before we poured the first glass. It offered blackberry, black currant, dark cherry, cedar, tobacco leaf and a hint of smoke on the nose. On the palate the wine showed blackberry, black currant, dark cherry, spices, cedar, leather, tobacco leaf and hints of chocolate and smoke, paired with medium-level tannin and acidity and very good length. The wine kept evolving as time passed and became richer, juicier, and round and impeccably balanced after three hours in the decanter, without the tiniest rough edge left. This wine was not about depth or power, but about perfect balance and harmony. A true St. Julien. I liked it a lot and ordered a case the same night. 90 points for the time being, with good potential to improve. I would recommend holding the wine for another two to three years, and decanting for at least three hours if you can’t keep your hands off it.
